Overview

Following a number of joint workshops between BAE Systems and CP Training/Supply Chain Academy representatives, the new pathway has now been formed, bringing in a number of existing CP Training courses that have been selected to provide:

– A Foundation Programme in Supply Chain Operations – for new starters to the AM&S team.

– Practitioner skills training – for existing AM&S employees.

– Advanced skills training – for the more senior staff.

Each of the courses is linked to a professional qualification and the appropriate academic level, provided by the Institute of Supply Chain Management and underpinned by SFEDI; the Ofqual qualification provider.

The first practitioner level skills course in Integrated Inventory Management was delivered in June at the BAE Systems Academy for Skills & Knowledge in Samlesbury, Lancashire. Further courses are scheduled for September and November 2017, with the roll-out of all seven courses that make up Career Pathway running every year until 2022.

BAE Systems were keen to enhance the skills and capabilities of their Supply Chain team in parallel with the extensive and all-embracing programme that is already in place for their Maintenance staff. A search for potential specialist training providers had revealed that most of their specialist training needs were already available from CP Training.

Joint discussions since the beginning of the year had evaluated these courses in detail, and as a result they had then been mapped across the required Career Pathway framework.

At this stage, the Career Pathway is scheduled for AM&S team members stationed across the extensive BAE Systems locations in the UK, but discussions are currently underway to extend the training opportunities to other BAE Systems locations overseas.were discussed so colleagues could understand their strategy and how they operate.
